Oh My Gosh!
Not every day goes as smoothly as we would like! A nasty phone call, an angry boss/customer, a disaster in the day, something not working, running late! There are many things that can derail us from having a calm and fulfilling day. And when you feel your stress levels increasing, and you feel that panic building up, what do you do?!
I used to suffer from panic attacks, and would go to the toilets as quickly, yet not running, as possible to try and remove myself from the situation. In the toilet I would pray, and repeat Bible verses and hope to calm myself down. Some days I would have to do this a number of times during the day. It left me exhausted and struggling to appear calm and in control. I hated that. Feeling stressed out and panicky is not a fun way to live!
Emergency tapping
If only I had known then what I know now! 🙂
When you tap on the body on certain points, it helps to calm the body down! The body can then switch from Sympathetic nervous system dominance (when you are ready to run or fight), to a more Para-sympathetic state (which means you are calm and the body can be more in a restful state). Doing this will bring the body to a place of calm, and will also help to get the front part of the brain (pre-frontal cortex) ‘online’, meaning it will help you to think more clearly!
How?
If you are able to do a whole round of tapping, and focus on the emotion and body part where you are feeling those anxious feelings, that will be the best. However, if you are somewhere in public, and would not like to be seen tapping on your head & face, there are some discreet ways to tap. You can tap on the finger points, or you can tap on the side of the hand. If you are sitting at a table, you can press some of the points on your head, like the point under the mouth, or on the side of the eye. If you are standing (or sitting), you may just want to touch the collarbone points with one hand. Doing this while breathing in deeply can do wonders for that anxious moment. And when you can think calmly and clearly, you are able to have more control in the situation.
Try it and let me know in the comments how you went!
