What is EFT?

History

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a set of tools that have been developed and refined over the years. The techniques were originally developed by Paul Callaghan as Thought Field Therapy, and later made known as Emotional Freedom Techniques by Gary Craig.

There are many coaches and therapists who use EFT in various situations and settings. There has also been lots of clinical studies done by various people such as Dawson Church, and also Dr. Peta Stapleton (a fellow Aussie!)

What IS it?

It is stating what the problem is that you want to change – an event with an emotion that you have about the event – while you tap on specific points on your head and upper body. Tapping on these points have been proven to calm the body down, which is what you need to be able to process that past (or future) event in a different way.

Tapping is Event Based.

  1. Choose an event when something happened. Imagine it as a photo in the album of your life.
  2. Identify the EMOTION you are feeling NOW when you look at that photo (Anger, Sad, Fear, Shame, Guilt, Embarrassment, etc.)
  3. How intense do you feel that emotion: 0 (little) – 10 (a lot!)
  4. Do you feel this emotion anywhere in your body?
  5. Tap on the side of the hand (pic 1) and say aloud: Even Though I have this EMOTION in my BODY PART when I remember the time when… (state the event of the photo above) and end with one of the following:
    1. I deeply and completely accept myself OR
    2. Right here and right now I’m ok OR
    3. I accept that I feel this way
  6. Repeat that setup statement 3 x while tapping on the side of the hand
  7. Repeat the following: this EMOTION in my BODY PART, while tapping on all the other points from 2 to 9 in the pictures
  8. Check the intensity of the emotion again. Ideally keep tapping a round (steps 5-7 above) until the intensity is at a 0!
  9. The emotion may change and note that and tap all the emotions surrounding the photo event down to 0 – adjust steps 6-7 with the new emotions or body locations.
  10. You can tap with either hand or with both hands or change them around.

What is Matrix Reimprinting?

Matrix Reimprinting was created by Karl Dawson and is an amazing tool to help with resolving beliefs created during times of trauma, or just during childhood.

We tend to create our beliefs that we live our adult life by the time we are seven years old. The mechanism by which this happens is due to a child’s brain being in a state of generating Alpha waves. This state causes children to believe whatever they are told. They do not yet have the developmental capacity to question and judge statements as true or false.

As a result, we made life mean things that could be false beliefs that now hold us back. An example could be a person who was abused as a child, and keep thinking it was their fault. They are going around in adulthood thinking that anything that goes wrong, has to be their fault and are stuck and trapped as a result of this belief.

Matrix reimprinting facilitates the reframing of those childhood memories and beliefs and is invaluable in generating life changes.

Matrix reimprinting has a number of steps, and the client is always aware and can therefore assist in the whole process. If you have any questions, contact me for a chat.
